Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Engineer has responsibility for coordination of all technical activities on assigned projects. Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates assigned maintenance engineering work; monitors work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and company standards; ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project participants.

This role is responsible for the effective execution of all maintenance work control processes and the administration of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The Engineer is responsible for the efficient and effective use of planning and scheduling all resources to conduct maintenance activities which result to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. In addition, this role works with area managers to help the department ensure compliance to company policies, Standard Operating Procedures and cGMPs.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

Engineering Projects

  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating the technical aspects of maintenance engineering projects.

  • Accountable for the successful completion of maintenance engineering projects.

  • Regular contact with assigned project clients.

  • Assists in the preparation of maintenance engineering project proposals.

  • Prepares project maintenance engineering schedules and forecasts.

  • Coordinates and checks maintenance engineering deliverables.

  • Provides monthly project status reports and change orders.

  • Acts as primary for all maintenance shutdown projects as needed.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

General and Preventive Maintenance

  • Uses technical experience to improve production processes and introduce tools/systems to monitor equipment reliability.

  • Supports equipment/software qualification/validation efforts, as needed.

  • Supports new technologies and automation opportunities in lowering the overall cost of maintenance and manufacturing.

  • Provides support for investigations related to maintenance of equipment, facilities, and utilities.

  • Maintains preventive maintenance procedures for production equipment, facilities, and utilities.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related studies required with 2-5 years’ progressive technical experience.

  • Project management experience.

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience a plus.

  • Hands-on experience working with industrial automation such as Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), etc.

  • Relevant college/university Internships.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic mathematics.

  • Proficient with Microsoft software (e.g. Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio).

  • Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with individuals contacted in the course of work.

  • Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

Physical Requirements

  • Will sit or stand for long periods of time throughout the day.

  • Required to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Will walk and climb stairs.

  • Will reach over shoulder heights and below waist.

  • Required to use hands to lift, handle, carry or feel.

  • May be required to kneel, bend, talk and hear.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.
